The AI-friendly screenshot app for Mac.

You screenshot things to feed ChatGPT & Claude — then they pile up on your Desktop, unsearchable. Stashot catches every shot, OCR-indexes it automatically, and makes your whole history searchable. Your AI can even take and find them for you.

Tools: capture_screen · search_screenshots · get_latest · get_screenshot_text. Requires Node 22.5+. Your screenshots stay 100% local — nothing is uploaded. Enabling MCP lets the AI client you connect search and read your screenshot history, so only connect clients you trust.

FAQ

Questions & answers

Why isn’t it on the Mac App Store?

The things that make Stashot useful — a global one-key hotkey (Right Shift), full-screen capture, and a CLI + MCP server your AI can drive — aren’t possible under the App Store sandbox. So we ship it direct. It’s still notarized by Apple (malware-checked) and 100% local, and going direct keeps it $5 with no 30% cut.

Is it safe if it’s not from the App Store?

Yes. Every release is notarized by Apple — scanned for malware — so it opens without the “unidentified developer” warning. And your screenshots never leave your Mac: no account, no cloud, no tracking.

What’s the difference between Free and Pro?

Free is fully functional forever — capture, automatic OCR, full-text search, and the CLI & MCP server. Pro ($5, one-time) adds the annotation editor (crop, arrows, boxes, text, blur, rotate) and works on up to 5 Macs.

What do I need to run it?

An Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. The app is ~3 MB and fully native. The CLI and MCP server are optional and need Node 22.5+.
